What transpired today at Oke Mapo during the House of Representatives election process is deeply disturbing, unfortunate, and completely unacceptable in any democratic society.
Reports emerging from the collating and voting centres indicate that several eligible voters were denied the opportunity to cast their votes, while many supporters and residents were allegedly chased away from the election venue through intimidation and harassment.
Such acts of voter suppression, intimidation, and disenfranchisement have no place in a free, fair, and credible democratic process.
Democracy thrives when citizens are allowed to freely exercise their constitutional rights without fear, threats, violence, or coercion. Any attempt to silence the voices of the people or manipulate the electoral process through intimidation is a direct attack on democracy and the integrity of our electoral system.
The APC and all stakeholders involved in the process must understand that elections are not won through fear or suppression, but through the genuine support and confidence of the people.
We therefore call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, and all relevant election observers to urgently investigate the incidents reported at Oke Mapo and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
Justice, transparency, fairness, and the sanctity of the people’s mandate must be protected at all costs.
The people deserve a process that reflects their true will, free from intimidation and political oppression.
