The attention of Tope Liberty Cares has been drawn to the statement issued by the Director General of the Opomulero Group concerning the ongoing libel suit involving the Ondo State Commissioner for Finance, Hon. Omowunmi Isaac.
As responsible stakeholders in our democracy, we align with the fundamental principle that the judiciary remains the proper institution to determine disputes of this nature. Courtrooms—not media platforms, political gatherings or social media—are the appropriate venues for resolving matters that are already before a competent court of law.
The decision of any citizen to seek judicial interpretation or protection of his or her reputation is a constitutional right guaranteed under the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Such a decision should not be misconstrued as hostility or political vendetta, but rather as confidence in the rule of law and democratic institutions.
It is equally important for members of the public to understand that procedural rulings made during litigation do not amount to a final determination of the substantive issues before the court. No party should seek to create false political narratives from routine judicial procedures. The case remains pending, and only the final judgment will determine the rights and obligations of the parties involved.
We therefore urge political actors, party leaders and supporters across all divides to exercise restraint by avoiding comments capable of influencing public perception or undermining confidence in the judicial process. Responsible leadership demands patience, maturity and respect for constitutional institutions.
We also commend Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for sustaining an administration that continues to promote stability, peaceful coexistence and adherence to democratic principles. Political disagreements must never be allowed to distract the government from delivering good governance to the people of Ondo State.
As advocates of peace, unity and responsible politics, Tope Liberty Cares encourages every stakeholder to embrace civility while allowing the courts to discharge their constitutional responsibilities without intimidation, pressure or unnecessary political sensationalism.
Justice is best served when it is allowed to take its full course, and every law-abiding citizen must respect the eventual decision of the court.
