Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa’s clarification on his political loyalty is another demonstration of the maturity, experience and leadership expected from a Governor who understands the value of party loyalty and political stability.
For those who may have forgotten, Governor Aiyedatiwa’s political journey did not begin yesterday. From the Alliance for Democracy (AD), through the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and now the All Progressives Congress (APC), he has remained firmly rooted in the progressive political family.
That consistency matters.
Leadership is not about reacting to every rumour or political provocation. Leadership is about remaining focused, responsible and committed to the larger interest. Governor Aiyedatiwa has once again shown that quality.
As the leader of the APC in Ondo State, the Governor has demonstrated that he understands the difference between legitimate political disagreements and actions capable of undermining the party.
It is therefore unfair for anyone to manufacture allegations that the Governor is sponsoring opposition candidates simply because of internal political differences. Such claims should be treated with the seriousness they deserve and subjected to evidence, not speculation.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has never hidden his political identity. His antecedents speak for him.
His experience in progressive politics, his years of service and his current position as Governor have equipped him with the wisdom to navigate political challenges without losing sight of the bigger picture.
Governor Aiyedatiwa has demonstrated leadership by choosing stability over unnecessary political confrontation, experience over emotion, and the collective interest over personal narratives.
Those who understand Ondo politics know that the Governor does not need to destroy the house he leads in order to prove his relevance.
The APC in Ondo State remains his political home, and his record of progressive political participation is a matter of history.
We should judge Governor Aiyedatiwa by his actions, his leadership and his record — not by rumours manufactured for political convenience.
